2016 Author Highlights
Leonard Pitts, Jr., has won the the Ernie Pyle Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists. Deborah Mantella’s novel, My Sweet Vidalia, made the same SIBA list, while Delta Jewels: In Search of My Grandmother’s Wisdom, the photo-essay by Alysia Burton Steele, was a contender for SIBA’s “The Death of Santini” Nonfiction Prize. http://www.sibaweb.com/

Stella by Starlight, Sharon M. Draper’s latest middle grade fiction, recently won the National Council of Teachers of Education (NCTE)’s Charlotte Huck Award for Outstanding Fiction for Children. http://www.ncte.org/awards/charlotte-huck. Meanwhile, Draper’s previous middle grade novel, Out of My Mind, first released in 2010, has now attracted translation deals in 20 different languages.
